He meets Ray Embrey, a PR guy that decides to guide this not so ideal superhero. Critics gave this summer blockbuster an average C rating for a plot that had a twist some liked, and some did not. If you enjoy digital effects, Hancock is full of them.

You’ve got to give props for a story that hasn’t been done before.

Don’t expect much in the way of enthralling conversation. There are enough jokes between the plot lines, and action sequences to keep you awake, but the movie is mostly a visual bonanza of action.

For all it’s hype, I was expecting better.

Here’s the movie trailer for Hancock.

Starring an A-list ensemble of actors, Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Jennifer Esposito, and William Fichtner, Crash is poignant, riveting, and intense.

The director, Paul Haggis describes this movie as a “passion piece”. That’s very apparent, the way every character is crafted. I cared about every character and they were all “human”. Sure, far from perfect, but trying, each in his own peculiar way, to do what’s right.

It would be simple to say that this movie is about racism. It’s not. It’s true message seemed to be that racism is just an excuse, a way of finding differences amongst ourselves where no differences really exist.

Check out the Crash movie trailer here.

The cast is an ensemble starring Toni Collette, Abigail Breslin, Alan Arkin, Paul Dano, Steve Carell and Greg Kinnear.

Watching the antics of this dysfunctional family was amusing. Their quest to get Olive to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant in a broken down VW van was not without it’s mishaps.

The ending scenes will bring a tear to your eye, and place laughter in your heart. I rather doubt Little Miss Sunshine will bring home the Oscar, but if you enjoy the quirky movies Fox Searchlight Pictures puts out, you’ll probably enjoy this.

You know those true stories are always good. The Pursuit of Happyness is no exception. An adaptation of one man’s pursuit from rags to riches, Will Smith does a fantastic job in the lead role. I was never a huge fan of him on television, but his recent acting in the movies Hitch, and I, Robot has been entertaining.

Down on his luck, and not able to pay his bills, Chris Gardner, played by Smith, is a struggling salesman. Fatherless during his childhood, Gardner would not have the same for his son. He needed to find something better. An internship as a stockbroker at a top financial institution became his chance.

Jaden Smith, the real-life son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith acts in the role of Gardner’s son. There’s obvious chemistry between the two, which adds that sense of realism to the movie.

Here’s a clip of The Pursuit of Happyness movie trailer.

 Amazon.com Widgets

A lady sitting by me was crying at the end of the movie. It’s one of those feel-good, you can accomplish what you set out to achieve, type of flicks. I’d recommend The Pursuit of Happyness.

For you Will Smith fans, you’ll be able to catch him again in three upcoming movies scheduled for release in 2007 -2008. I Am Legend, Tonight, He Comes, and Time Share.

Yesterday, I had the chance to see the Clint Eastwood movie, Flags of Our Fathers. The trailer can be found by clicking the pic in the box below.

Similar to the invasion scenario of Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, this film is the story behind the famous photo of five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi, during the Iwo Jima invasion of World War II.

The invasion footage was well done. What those men went through… I can’t imagine. Ryan Phillippe, Adam Beach, Jesse Bradford, Jamie Bell, and Ben Walker played major roles. True story adaptations always make for a good film. Flags of Our Fathers was no exception. Be sure and watch the credits which show the actual photo’s from the Iwo Jima invasion and flag raising.

The Pulitzer prize winning photo by Joe Rosenthal sparked a renewed sense of American patriotism during a low point in the war emotionally and financially. These new “heroes” were set out on a “buy War bonds” drive across the country. The story written by Paul Haggis of Crash, and Bill Broyles Jr. of Cast Away, focuses on the three surviving soldiers of the flag raising. Each character deals with the post emotions of war and their current title as hero differently.

Flags of Our Fathers is an insightful action film that delves deeper behind the selling of war to the American public. Acting was emotional and insightful. Flags of Our Fathers is a dvd I’ll be adding to my collection.
